An old traditional Bulgarian country house that sleeps 6 with 3 twin bedrooms and modern bathroom. Converted barn provides a modern kitchen and living area. The house is near Shipkovo and Chiflik mineral springs in the Heart of the Stara Planina Mountains. Self Catering or Catered holidays can be provided. The Surrounding Area

Situated on the beautiful banks of the Beli Osam River, at the foot of the Central Balkans, stands the 135 year old town of Troyan. It is surrounded by majestic green scenery filled with the fragrance of wild geraniums. Troyan (25,000 inhabitants) is an administrative, economic and cultural centre of a municipality.

Situated 160 km north-east from Sofia, Bulgaria's capital city, which now sees a growing number of flights from all over Europe with many operated by budget airlines.

Information for Walkers

From the centres of Troyan and Apriltsi situated in the heart of the Central Balkan National Park are unlimited walking and climbing opportunities. The main routes are waymarked and lead between the mountain chalets which are situated throughout the park just below the peaks.

The chalets are situated for day walks and are equipped with youth hostel style ammenities for an overnight stay. The Mountains reach 2300 metres at Mt Botev and have a continental climate so are impassible in Winter, but there are many cross country ski runs in the area around Beklemeto.

The area is also very rich in wildlife and still has bears, wild boar and many deer together with extensive birdlife. As well as being unspoiled the area is very very cheap, an example a double room in a mountain chalet is 8 leva about 2.50 GBP.

There are also many daywalks from the valleys below which host hot mineral springs noteably at Chiflik and Shipkovo.

Only 160km from Sofia these mountains are very accessible but also very wild and remote.
